BYD is partnering with Apparent Inc. to develop a two megawatt solar and two megawatt hour energy storage project at its Lancaster, California coach and bus manufacturing plant, demonstrating the company’s mission to be a total green energy solution provider.

With Novato, California’s Apparent, BYD will own and operate the project utilizing BYD solar panels and batteries and Apparent’s intelligent grid operating software (igOS™). BYD will buy power from the system under a 25-year agreement. The system is expected to be operational in fall 2019.

Apparent’s igOS™ is the key to unlocking the total green solution — the sophisticated, predictive software identifies and signals to BYD’s battery system to charge during times of low demand and discharge during peak times. In this case, it allows BYD to save over $100,000 annually in energy with the same upfront costs.
