Reason for MARTA’s Safety Effort
Police nationwide have noticed a spike in thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles after a post on social media showed how to start these cars without a key.
MARTA has had a total of 17 incidents involving Kia and Hyundai vehicles since the beginning of the year, according to Deputy Chief of Police Willie Davenport.
“Whenever we notice a trend or spike in certain types of incidents, we are always looking for solutions to help our riders,” Davenport said.
Another MARTA safety effort includes deploying trailer cameras in the larger parking lots at stations with high foot traffic.

Partnering with Kia, Hyundai
MARTA reached out to Kia and Hyundai after noticing that other agencies, such as the Atlanta Police Department, were distributing these locks to members of their communities.
“We decided to offer the same opportunity to our patrons who trust us to provide them with a safe and secure transit system,” Davenport said. “The manufacturers were happy to provide us with the locks so that we could help our patrons protect their property.”
