A ribbon cutting on Aug. 16 celebrated the official opening of St. Louis Downtown Airport’s new Ground Engine Run-Up and Compass Calibration Pad project.

Representatives of St. Louis Downtown Airport, Bi-State Development, the Illinois Department of Transportation, state and local elected officials, and invited guests were on hand for the ceremony at the new engine run-up area.

The $5.4 million project benefits aircraft maintenance and manufacturing providers operating at St. Louis Downtown Airport and will support high-tech aerospace maintenance and trade skill jobs at the airport.

Five million dollars in state funding was awarded for the project, which will help improve operational safety, boost airport businesses, and increase global competitiveness for Southwestern Illinois, St. Clair County, and the State of Illinois.

Mary Lamie and Sandra Shore led the projects for St. Louis Downtown Airport and Bi-State Development.
