To accommodate unplanned employee absences (illness, emergencies, etc.), transit agencies must employ a sufficient number of transit vehicle operators to meet the demands of scheduled service, according to a new report by the Mineta National Transit Research Consortium.
The project is part of the agency’s plan to eliminate paper ticketing from its fare system to all contactless media by spring 2016.
Its 2015 budget includes $84 million in safety initiatives, and safety investments will total $363 million over the entire 2015 to 2018 four-year Financial Plan. The MTA Board will vote on next year’s final Financial Plan in December.
