OCTA launches bus safety campaign

A series of videos, contests and social media messaging encourages riders to “Be a Safety Hero!” by watching four short bus safety videos and taking a quiz. Their responses are entered into a drawing that randomly awards one 30-day bus pass each week through Jan. 31.

AC Transit, union reach agreement

Heads off a threatened strike that that had been twice averted. Provides for a wage increase of 9.5% that will be phased in over the three years of the contract. The agency and union also agreed on a flat monthly contribution of $120 per employee during the life of the contract.

Transit targeted in Russian bombings

A suspected suicide bombing hit a trolleybus in the city of Volgograd, killing at least 14 people. This comes on the heels of yesterday’s explosion at Volgograd’s main rail station — a major transit point for people traveling to Sochi — which killed 17 people and injured 35.

Wichita Transit considering switch to natural gas

The city is beginning a multiyear plan to replace its fleet, while at the same time working through a community-based process to decide the scope and future of the bus program, which advocates say will run out of money in a little more than a year without new funding.
