The Mexico City Metro (Sistema de Transporte Colectivo) is the second largest subway in North America after the New York City Subway. In 2012, the system served 1.609 billion passengers. Its inaugural 7.9-mile line, serving 16 stations, opened to the public on 4 September 1969.
