Ridership up for Central Ohio Transit

Provided more than 17 million rides in 2010 and is on pace to provide over 18 million rides in 2011. On an average weekday last week, COTA provided over 62,000 rides, which was 15.8 percent higher than in 2010. It was also the 15th consecutive week of increased ridership this year.

UW-Madison eliminating most free handicapped parking

There currently are 73 free state DOT disabled parking stalls in surface lots across the UW-Madison campus, however, that number will drop to 16 over the next year with the university transitioning most of the free spaces to gated ramps and parking garages that require fees.

When hired, RTA operators receive 48 hours of classroom and on-the-road training. New paratransit operators get an additional 80 hours of training on the road. All operators at RTA also must take a one-day course in which they go through the paces of people with cognitive and physical disabilities.

Northern Ariz. U. to charge carless students parking fees

This fall, even students who walk, ride bicycles or are dropped off at the campus will be required to pay a $30-per-semester "transportation fee." The funds will support the campus shuttle system. Ridership has outpaced current parking permit revenues.

Cleveland RTA opens $9.6M renovated transit station

The reconstructed Puritas Rapid Transit Station features a 6,500 square foot main building, along with a 130-foot bridge connecting passengers to the train’s platform, and nearly 600 parking spaces, with a row of dedicated overnight spaces.
