The contract is valued at just over $2.17 million.
Alstom is designing a hydrogen solution based on a high-power fuel cell system that can power electric locomotives on non-electrified sections.
The 25 additional cars will include five multilevel cab cars, 17 multilevel trailer cars, and three multilevel trailer cars with restrooms.
The new trains will run on Germany’s Main-Weser subnetwork operating between Frankfurt, Giessen, Marburg and Kassel and will support the planned timetable change on 15 December 2024.
The services cover preventive and corrective maintenance as well as overhauls for a total fleet of 82 trains at contract signature.
Alstom will continue to honor its obligations under the existing orders for Rolling Stock from Trenitalia and ILSA to ensure a seamless transition.
The mid-life overhaul and upgrades of the cars will be performed over a two-year period, requiring the vehicles to be stripped down, overhauling parts, and producing newly refurbished BiLevel cars for the GO Transit fleet.
Closing of the transaction is expected between April and September of 2022.
The two companies have agreed to work together, sharing technical, and commercial information necessary for Alstom to design, build, commission, and support a fleet of ten three-car hydrogen multiple units.
