James Romansoff was an eight-year employee in Metro-North’s Power Department, and was part of a crew restoring power to tracks that had been closed for weekend maintenance work. The NTSB and the FRA are investigating the incident along with Metro-North and the MTA Police Department.

The investigative group focusing on the track has learned from inspection reports that in April, maintenance work was done in the area of the derailment of the eastbound train. Records revealed that a joint bar, used to join two sections of rail together, was cracked and that it was repaired by Metro-North personnel.

About 100 workers are on the job, which has been ongoing around the clock since Saturday night when the NTSB completed its initial investigation of the scene and allowed Metro-North to begin removing the two, eight-car trains.
