Amtrak: On pace to break ridership record

The 13.6 million passengers who rode on Amtrak trains during the first two quarters of FY 2010 (October 2009 - March 2010) contributed to a 4.3 percent increase over the same period the prior year. It also is about 100,000 more riders than the 13.5 million posted in FY 2008, which turned out to be Amtrak's best ridership year in company history when America's passenger railroad carried 28.7 million passengers.

Amtrak advancing PTC installations

To accomplish the self-imposed and accelerated timeline, Amtrak will submit a PTC Implementation Plan to the Federal Railroad Administration by April 16, as required by law, and is now designing the build-out of its existing PTC system along the Northeast Corridor.

Initially, the featured national parks include Glacier, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Everglades, Sequoia & Kings Canyon, Rocky Mountain and 50 others located along the Northeast Corridor and in the nation’s capital. These parks were selected due to their proximity to an Amtrak route. There are plans to add more national parks to the site.
