Robert Baer is credited with helping lead the successful campaign to pass a half-cent sale-tax increase in St. Louis County last April that enabled Metro to restore service reductions and finance future expansions and new services.

Kei and Mai Maeda’s civil claims in response to the Aug. 9 motorcoach crash near Cedar City, Utah, are the first and possibly the only that will be filed, since other Japanese tourists left the U.S. unaware of their legal rights. The lawsuit claims the driver smoked pot for three hours the night before and had to sustain himself on energy drinks and nicotine gum while driving.
Violators will be fined up to $25 under the ban, which takes effect Dec. 1.
North County Transit District riders enrolled in drug and alcohol treatment programs will now pay $59 instead of $18 for a monthly bus pass. The district had trouble verifying that discount applicants were enrolled in a valid treatment program.
In 2012 and 2013, RTA will also receive the annual $5.4 million in operational funding. ODOT made the monetary determination by the size and needs of the state agencies, of which Greater Cleveland RTA is the largest beneficiary.
The approximately $400 million project is for a proposed 9.3-mile light rail transit system expected to be in operation by 2016. The project is being structured as an innovative public-private partnership, with a private group, M1 Rail, providing funding and participating in the development of a portion of the system.
