41% of U.S. public transit buses use alt fuels, hybrid technology

APTA statistics for 2014 show that 16.9% of public transit buses were hybrid-electric. Coming in a close second, public transit systems report that 16.7% of U.S. transit buses used compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) and blends. Biodiesel is used by 7.4% of public transit buses. Other alternative fuels, such as propane and hydrogen, account for 0.3%.

Man rear ends Fla. transit bus, dies

Police said nine passengers on the bus suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospitals.There were about 25 people on the bus when it was hit, police said. The bus driver was not hurt and administered CPR to the SUV driver until rescue personnel arrived.

The threat was called in about 5:30 p.m. Friday, as the bus was traveling from New York state to Cleveland. The men claimed they were affiliated with Al-Qaeda and had a bomb that would destroy the White House.

Pa. transit agency to purchase 12 paratransit vehicles

The Westmoreland County Transit Authority's $600,000 state grant will be used to buy the seven-seat minibuses that can hold up to two wheelchairs. The vehicles will be given to private transportation companies that serve as contractors for the paratransit system.

San Francisco passes new tour bus law

The city’s Board of Supervisors unanimously gave preliminary approval to an ordinance requiring most tour bus operators to employ a second, non-driving guide to provide commentary. The new law follows the fatal collision in October in a crosswalk in front of San Francisco City Hall.
