SAN FRANCISCO — The city’s Board of Supervisors unanimously gave preliminary approval to an ordinance requiring most tour bus operators to employ a second, non-driving guide to provide commentary, reported SFGate.
The new law follows the fatal collision in October in a crosswalk in front of San Francisco City Hall. A motorized cable car being operated as a tour bus struck and killed Priscila Moreto, who was returning to her desk at the city controller’s office. The driver of the motorized cable car, Raymond Lucas, an employee of Classic Cable Car Charters, was cited for a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter violation and released.
