In response to proposed tariffs announced by the U.S. and Canadian governments, which have since been delayed 30 days, motorcoach industry officials from both countries released a letter discussing the potential impact such tariffs would have, as well as stating their intentions to remain in solidarity with its members and as an industry as things continue to evolve.

The letter from association leaders at the American Bus Association, the United Motorcoach Association, Motor Coach Canada, and the Ontario Motor Coach Association is below. METRO will continue to cover this important topic as it evolves as well.

Motorcoach Association Dear Members Letter

"On behalf of the American Bus Association (ABA), the United Motorcoach Association (UMA), Motor Coach Canada (MCC), and the Ontario Motor Coach Association (OMCA), we want to update you on our collective efforts regarding the impending trade disputes between the United States and Canada and their potential impact on the motorcoach industry, travel industries and manufacturers.

"As you have likely read, the U.S. Government has announced a 25% across-the-board tariff on Canadian imports, while Canada has responded with tariffs on $107 billion worth of U.S. goods. Many of these plans are short on detail, and we expect further information to be released in the coming days. We are closely monitoring these developments and will continue providing timely updates to ensure our members are informed and prepared for any potential impacts.

"The motorcoach manufacturing supply chain is global, with critical components, parts, and finished goods produced in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Many U.S. manufacturers specialize in key components such as engines, transmissions, and electrical systems, while Canadian manufacturers play a vital role in assembling and completing the final motorcoach. This interdependence highlights the need for unencumbered trade between our two nations regarding the manufacture of motorcoaches and their parts.

"We understand that the tariffs and higher costs will impact your businesses and group travel industry. Our associations are working together alongside our stakeholders to coordinate our response and maximize our collective advocacy and lobbying efforts on your behalf.

"We encourage you to stay engaged with us and share any concerns or challenges you may be facing related to these trade issues. Your input is vital as we continue our advocacy efforts.

"Together, we can navigate these challenges and ensure the long-term success of the North American motorcoach and group travel industries. Thank you for your continued support and participation. We will provide further updates as more information becomes available."
