Dr. Beverly Scott, current general manager of the Sacramento Regional Transit District, was selected as the new Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority general manager to succeed Richard McCrillis. She was identified by the board as a leading candidate during a national search last year.  

Scott has served as general manager of both the Sacramento Regional Transit District and the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, one of only four statewide public transit systems in the U.S. Scott has also served in high-level executive positions with some of the nation’s largest transit agencies including New York and Washington, D.C.  

The vote to select Scott was held Monday following the board’s required 14-day notice to the public of its intent to appoint a new general manager. The board said its swift actions were a reflection of intense competition for top transit executives and Richard McCrillis’ planned retirement in 2008. MARTA officials have continued to express their appreciation for McCrillis and his commitment to the Atlanta transit system, citing his improvements to customer service and the system’s restored financial health.  

McCrillis will continue to serve as general manager at MARTA until Scott is available to assume her duties.
