In her new role, Alvord will provide strategic and technical leadership to further expand HDR’s project controls practice and its application on transportation infrastructure projects.

Joanna “Asia” Alvord has been promoted to serve as HDR's transportation project controls director, acccording to the company's press release.

Alvord has more than 20 years of innovative digital project management experience and recent management of the project controls cross sector.

“Technology is ever-changing, and our clients often find they need to more flexibly integrate with new tools and adjust to ongoing changes, all while they feel the pressure to deliver projects on schedule and on budget,” Alvord said. “I want to leverage the skills and experience of our project controls professionals to help our clients convert challenges into opportunities.”

In her new role, Alvord will provide strategic and technical leadership to further expand HDR’s project controls practice and its application on transportation infrastructure projects.

Her focuses include prioritizing needs and advancing the implementation of dashboard analytics and applications of Power BI, cost estimating, and scheduling, particularly critical path, linear scheduling and construction phase mapping.

Alvord will work with global project management teams to help our clients leverage decision support systems for their projects. 

Most recently serving as manager of our project controls cross sector, Alvord provided dashboard solutions for transportation clients in Utah, Alaska, California, New York, Texas, and elsewhere. She is currently serving as the project manager helping develop the new Utah Department of Transportation construction manual.

Alvord started her career with HDR over 21 years ago in Omaha, Nebraska, in its information services department. After four years, she relocated to Austin, Texas, to work on alternative delivery projects.

“Under Asia’s management, the project controls practice has experienced tremendous growth, especially in support of our program management and alternative delivery projects,” said Jason McGlashan, Program Delivery Services director. “From determining the proper approach to meet our client and project needs to mentoring staff and driving innovation with data and technology, her guidance creates efficiencies, improves quality and adds value to our projects.”
