IndyGo released the construction bid packages for the Red Line Rapid Transit project. Two bid packages are included: one for civil work and the other for station work. Vendors are invited to bid on one or both.

The IndyGo board of directors anticipates awarding the final bid(s) in December, with construction groundbreaking in January 2018. Bid packages from construction contractors will include detailed work schedules.

“IndyGo is committed to contractor, supplier, and service business diversity. DBE, minorities, women, veterans, and disabled owned businesses are vital to IndyGo’s contracting program,” said Director of Procurement, Pam White. “Vendors are invited to attend the upcoming pre-bid meeting on September 19 to network and form partnerships.”

The Red Line, is planned to open for service in spring 2019, is an element of the Marion County Transit Plan and will stretch 13 miles from Broad Ripple to the University of Indianapolis. This upgraded transit service will serve as the frequent spine of the improved efficient grid network.

“During construction, IndyGo is committed to mitigating impacts to pedestrians, bicyclists, traffic and parking,” said VP of Public Affairs, Bryan Luellen. “As such, some restrictions and timing requirements will be included in the bid documents including but not limited to work restrictions for special events, a limit on consecutive intersections impacted at one time, and signage to redirect traffic to support business access.”

Continuing this fall and through groundbreaking, IndyGo will be connecting with corridor business owners and residents about the anticipated schedule and resources available during construction. In addition, a dedicated construction hotline will open at the end of the year, and the three corridor liaisons will continue outreach and serve as direct interface between work crews and the public. In correlation with the bid package release, IndyGo launched the new Red Line website — www.IndyGoRed.com — with additional resources, newsletter sign-up, and a 3 week look-ahead construction schedule.
