The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) invites women who are curious about career opportunities in construction and the transportation industry to participate in the Women Build Metro Los Angeles (WBMLA) Apprenticeship Readiness Fair on Friday, May 17.
The event focuses on opportunities for women, but everyone interested is welcome to attend.

The program includes sessions about the construction industry, career pathways, and assistance programs available to prepare women to take advantage of Metro’s mandate to attract more women to work on building the infrastructure in LA County. The event also offers hands-on experience and learning opportunities.
WBMLA was established in support of Metro’s Project Labor Agreement and Construction Careers Policy and is composed of women and men in construction related industries, community advocates, stakeholders and decision makers from private and public sectors.
Metro has been striving to increase the number of qualified women candidates for apprenticeship and placement with all trades that work on Metro construction projects.
Career-minded women will meet prime contractors, job coordinators, leaders of apprenticeship training programs, recruiters from trade unions and more. Attendees will learn about free apprenticeship prep training and construction-related businesses. The event is also an opportunity to hear women in trade unions talk about their experiences, daily work life and career opportunities at Metro.
A panel of women representing prime contractors will explain what their companies look for when sponsoring apprentices and will discuss best practices for increasing female participation.
After the formal program, attendees will be shown examples of trade unions’ work. This is done to help job seekers see the wide range of opportunities in the construction trades and the transportation industry.
