House extends surface transportation bill

While the vote was a result of a bipartisan agreement between Senate and House leaders, Chairman of the House Transportation Committee John Mica (R-FL) said it will be the last temporary extension he will support and that a full four-year funding bill needs to be put into place after this one expires.

CVSA’s ‘Brake Safety Week’ highlights proper maintenance

During the week of Sept. 11 to 17, CVSA-certified inspectors, brake suppliers and industry partners will conduct enforcement and education activities with drivers and mechanics at truck stops, weigh stations and other locations. Montreal program boosts ridership

SEPTA train station receives LEED Silver status

U. of Ky. unveils bus tracker

Cat Tracker lets students download an app or check online to see when and where the next bus nearest to them will arrive. The tracking program was accessed by over 8,000 users in August.

U. of Minn. to unveil bike reward system

The incentives program will use Radio Frequency Identification chips to keep track of who is biking and how much, as a basis for awarding points. Riders can cash the points in for discounts on bike repairs, equipment and health insurance premiums.

UNC Charlotte may have light rail access

Will hear in about four months whether the Charlotte Area Transit light rail system will be extended to UNC Charlotte by 2017. The extension would cost about $1 billion, and the agency hopes for half of the cost to come from federal funding.
