State lawmakers urge Metro Transit to step up fare enforcement

While an audit found that one of every 10 light rail passengers may not be paying fares, Metro Transit reports 94% compliance on its Green Line and 97% compliance on its Blue Line. Moving away from an honor system and installing turnstiles could cost the agency $107 million, according to the report.

In March alone, ridership was up 10.1% in 2015 compared to March of 2014. Average weekday ridership was up 7% and even greater increases were seen on weekends. The average ridership on Saturdays increased by 10% and on Sundays by 15%.

San Francisco passes new tour bus law

The city’s Board of Supervisors unanimously gave preliminary approval to an ordinance requiring most tour bus operators to employ a second, non-driving guide to provide commentary. The new law follows the fatal collision in October in a crosswalk in front of San Francisco City Hall.
