Amtrak canceled service last week on its Acela Express because of brake problems with trains in the Northeast Corridor (Washington to Boston).
An estimated 10,000 passengers were forced to find another means of transportation.

Cracks were found on the disc brakes on most railcars during routine inspections, but no brake failures or other safety problems had occurred, Amtrak said in a statement.
The problem was limited to Acela Express trains, and service could remain canceled until early summer, according to the Associated Press.
