Matt Dake, who has served as Minneapolis Metro Transit’s director of bus maintenance since 2018, has moved into a new role as the agency’s deputy COO, maintenance. 

The new position was created to lead activities in both bus and rail maintenance. Grouping employees by the type of work they do, rather than by mode, is intended to improve coordination on several fronts, including workforce development. 

Metro Transit has nearly 700 employees in bus and rail maintenance, spread across nine facilities, and expects to hire hundreds more as the system expands in the coming years. 

"I look forward to championing the work our maintenance crews perform every day to keep our buses and trains moving and providing high-quality service to our customers," Dake said.

Dake came to Metro Transit after a nearly 20-year career at LA Metro, where he worked as a mechanic, frontline supervisor, equipment maintenance manager, and senior director of equipment maintenance. He began his career as a technician's apprentice for Chrysler.
