According to Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, property taxes along the M-line route have already increased 28%. The city also projects that The Hop could generate $3.35 billion in new development in the downtown area.

The daily service features five streetcars with stops at 18 stations along a 2.5-mile loop every 10 to 15 minutes. The 150-passenger capacity low-floor railcars includes two doors per side for fast boarding and each car features roll-on/roll-off access for wheelchairs, strollers, and bikes.

Rides on The Hop will be free for its inaugural year per a sponsorship with a local hotel and casino.
