U.S. DOT issues $551M RFPs for American-made railcars

For manufacture of approximately 130 new bi-level passenger cars. Comes from a multi-state effort to jointly purchase standardized rail equipment to be used on Amtrak’s intercity routes in California, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Missouri. Funding is being provided by the FRA’s High-Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail Program.

FRA releases $17M for 12 rail projects

The rail line relocation competitive grant program funds projects that reduce the adverse effects of rail infrastructure on safety, motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic, community quality of life or economic development. Projects getting the funding include the Massachusetts DOT Patriot Corridor Double-Stack Clearance Initiative and the Indianapolis Downtown Rail Relocation.
