DCTA puts Stadler GTWs in revenue service

On Saturday, Texas’ Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) put a portion of its new fleet of Stadler GTW rail vehicles in revenue service.

DCTA purchased 11 diesel-electric GTW 2/6 articulated rail vehicles from Stadler. The vehicles offer level boarding and incorporate enhanced passenger information systems and video surveillance. The spacious interior has room for wheelchairs, strollers and bicycles. There are 104 seats and standing room for 96 persons in every vehicle along with large windows and comfortable seating.

On June 4, 2012, the Federal Railroad Administration awarded DCTA an alternative vehicle technology waiver, which allowed DCTA to introduce the vehicles into service earlier than anticipated. DCTA will operate one set of Stadler GTWs throughout the week.

DCTA plans to integrate additional vehicles into service over the next few months with a full transition by September.

The agency marked the one-year anniversary of its 21-mile, A-train on Monday. Since opening, the A-train has carried 386,230 passengers.
