Denver’s Regional Transportation District (RTD) launched its microtransit service FlexRide, formerly Call-n-Ride, in Broomfield.
FlexRide provides an option for commuters to make first- and last-mile connections to and from RTD transit stations. A new mobile app for the service makes booking a ride simple and quick.
RTD Board Chair Doug Tisdale and RTD CEO/GM Dave Genova were on hand to introduce the new look of the vehicles and discuss the benefits available to passengers.
“We are leading the discussion of mobility integration in the region by staying at pace with the needs of our customers and taking their changing habits into account as we move toward the future,” said Genova.
The new name better reflects the flexible nature of a service designed with each community’s needs in mind. Along with the new name, FlexRide vehicles have a new brand identity, with 32 shuttles on the street throughout many service areas. Numerous vehicles can already be seen throughout the northern region and will be added to other areas soon.
Passengers can access 21 FlexRide service areas for the cost of a local fare or as an extension of a trip on rail or bus. Those completing a trip outside the local zone will need to upgrade their fare.
One big change: Advance booking time has been reduced from an hour to just 10 minutes before departure. For recurring trips, riders can use the subscription option to schedule pick-ups from the same day, time and location.
Mobile ticketing makes trip planning even more convenient, with the purchase of a three-hour pass or monthly pass for use on FlexRide and any connecting services. The three-hour pass allows riders to travel up to three hours in any direction within the fare category for which they have paid.
