Vancouver’s TransLink launched a new summer campaign to encourage people to go car-free this summer and take transit to explore the region.

“As major events return to our communities, we want to encourage more people to get out of their cars this summer and experience the best of their neighborhoods using transit, walking, and cycling,” said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “Taking transit is easy and affordable to use and it’s also a way that everyone can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

TransLink’s summer “Ride & Shine” ridership campaign will include sponsorship of community festivals, promotional partnerships with local businesses, and increased service to popular summer destinations. This summer, TransLink is also launching a Transit Volunteer program to act as neighborhood guides, and a new Bike Bus to transport cyclists to and from the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.

TransLink is partnering with Destination Vancouver, West Coast Food, and West Coast Curated to offer discounts to transit users when visiting attractions and activities. Offers will be updated and can be found on TransLink’s Ride & Shine interactive map throughout the summer.

This summer, TransLink is increasing service on 11 bus routes to popular summer destinations like Stanley Park, White Pine Beach, and Buntzen Lake. Starting July 1, it will be even easier for cyclists to travel to and from the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal on transit to explore the Island with TransLink’s Bike Bus summer service.

TransLink is also sponsoring several Car Free Days of Summer events to bring the local community together to experience their vibrant neighborhoods in an environmentally sustainable way.

The festivals will feature sustainable and active transportation, an assortment of food and drink options, plus fun-filled entertainment including music, dance performances, and activities for the whole family. Attendees are encouraged to take a car-free pledge.
