Canadian Transport Minister calls for audio, video recorders on trains
Marc Garneau wants to see the video recorders put on locomotives running in Canada and he's also open to adding them to airplanes as well.

If passed, legislation before the Senate would require companies to install recorders in locomotives similar to a black box on an airplane that could be used in accident investigations to determine what went wrong.

CANADA — In the wake of Amtrak’s train derailment in Dupont, Wash., the National Observer reports that Transport Minister Marc Garneau is pushing for voice and video recorders to be implemented on trains to improve safety on Canada’s rail lines.
Garneau wants to see the video recorders put on locomotives running in Canada and he's also open to adding them to airplanes as well, telling the National Observer that he supports “anything that will help us improve safety and improve our understanding of any accident that occurs.”
If passed, legislation before the Senate would require companies to install recorders in locomotives similar to a black box on an airplane that could be used in accident investigations to determine what went wrong. For the full story, click here.
