The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) chose a winner for its rail announcement voice contest. Randi Miller of Woodbridge, Va., was selected from 1,259 official entries to WMATA's "Doors Closing Voice 2006" contest. Miller, whose voice will be heard on select trains later this month, will not receive any monetary compensation from the agency for winning the contest. Hundreds of thousands of Metrorail commuters will hear Miller's voice announcements systemwide this spring once field testing is completed. WMATA hopes the "fresh voice and new sound will make rail riders take notice, and exit and board trains quickly and safely."
