DoubleMap, an Indianapolis-based transportation software company, announced it entered into partnership with LYNX, the public transit agency in Orlando, Fla. The partnership marks the first DoubleMap Client to combine both software concepts for DoubleMap, a fixed-route GPS bus tracking service, and an on demand ride hailing service built for public transit systems. LYNX CEO John Lewis describes it as “Uber for transit.”

The solution will better utilize the Orlando urban transit system and make public transportation more accessible and convenient for all current and future riders.

LYNX customers will be able to download the free application to select their pickup and drop-off locations, list the number of riders they are traveling with (including wheelchair and bike options), and request a ride when the service is launched. Currently operating with ten vehicles in about 50 square miles, NeighborLink previously relied on a dispatcher to reserve, cancel, or check on trips.

In an effort to keep up with the active and busy lifestyle of its riders, Lewis recognized that “time is our precious asset and working with an innovative company like DoubleMap will enable LYNX to provide the most efficient mobility options for our customers.”

This partnership will allow DoubleMap to integrate into LYNX’s pre-existing NeighborLink, a program designed to make public transportation more accessible to residents in less-populated areas, using native solutions for iPhone and Android smartphones.
