The double-decker suspension bridge serves as a vital connection between Staten Island and Brooklyn, N.Y., with at least 195,000 vehicles crossing it daily. With such heavy traffic — especially during rush-hour commuting — highway signs and traffic monitoring and control equipment must operate optimally at all times. Intelligent Traffic Systems are made up of mission-critical electronic systems including computers, vehicle location sensors, toll equipment, cameras, monitoring and control equipment operating 24x7 in oftentimes harsh environmental conditions.
