First Bus has used the GreenRoad system since 2009 as the technology basis of its “DriveGreen” initiative.

GreenRoad Technologies, provider of fleet driver behavior and safety management solutions, announced that First Bus, one of Britain’s largest bus operators and a major GreenRoad customer, renewed its contract for an additional three-year term.

First Bus has used the GreenRoad system since 2009 as the technology basis of its “DriveGreen” initiative. It credits the initiative with helping to provide customers with a safer, smoother journey, while also reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

Installed in over 5,700 UK vehicles in 40-plus cities, GreenRoad’s solution gives drivers real-time feedback about their performance via “Green/Amber/Red” LED indicators. The system’s safety scores, which are assigned to drivers according to their performance, serve as the basis for incentivizing competitions and reward programs, as drivers attempt to “stay in the green” by avoiding risky behaviors such as harsh braking, sudden acceleration, tight cornering, speeding, and more. As their driving improves, the company benefits in terms of fewer collisions, lives saved, declining maintenance and insurance costs, and an improved overall reputation.
