JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) unveiled its autonomous test track on Wednesday, which will be used to develop a future autonomous shuttle network, reported The Florida-Times Union.
In four to five years, JTA plans to retire the Skyway trains, the agency's autonomous, elevated people mover, and replace them with the autonomous transit shuttles called the Ultimate Urban Circulator, which will also cruise at street level to more parts of downtown and outlying neighborhoods, the report said.
JTA CEO Nat Ford said the testing will give JTA an opportunity to keep up with the latest advancements in the rapidly changing field of autonomous vehicles, according to The Florida-Times Union report. For the full story, click here.
