Palm Tran of Palm Beach, Fla., hosted the Garrett A. Morgan Shadow Day, an event that honors African American inventor Garrett A. Morgan and educates grade school students about transit career opportunities.
As part of Shadow Day, students from R.J. Hendley Christian Community School traveled to Palm Tran’s North County Facility. Students watched a presentation detailing Morgan’s invention of the first automatic three-way traffic signal, which he patented in 1923.
Following the presentation, members of Palm Tran’s ELT outlined their leadership roles in their designated departments. To conclude the event, students received a behind-the-scenes tour of Palm Tran’s North County Facility.
The event is held in partnership with the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials and is part of a celebration of Black History Month.
Funded through the 2025 Investment Plan, the new R2 Marine–Willingdon RapidBus is expected to begin service in September, more than three months ahead of schedule.
