RTA added hybrid diesel-electric buses to its fleet in 2009 and in 2010. The authority will operate 20 hybrid diesel buses by the end of 2010. RTA paid for the hybrid diesel buses with federal stimulus package money received in spring, 2009.

"Our long history of commitment to the environment through investments in our electric trolleybus network, alternative fuels including biodiesel, and move toward clean diesel and hybrid electric technology in the fleet have been good for RTA's customers and the Dayton Region," said Executive Director Mark Donaghy.

Ohio Green Fleets is a comprehensive program designed by Clean Fuels Ohio to improve the environmental performance and efficiency of public and private fleets. The program recognizes fleets' efficiency and environmental performance.
