Ill.’s Rock Island County Metropolitan Mass Transit District (MetroLINK announced that their Metro downtown Rock Island District Station achieved LEED Gold status for sustainability achievement. The station incorporates a number of sustainable elements, including a photovoltaic roof, occupancy-controlled lighting, and the re-use of rooftop water runoff for the station’s water feature.
District Station is part of a larger transit-oriented development block located on the corner of 20th Street and 2nd Avenue in downtown Rock Island. The station is part of a livable communities initiative that incorporates “The Locks,” a 34-unit housing development supporting Rock Island’s economic strategies.
“We are extremely excited that District Station has received this prestigious recognition as a LEED Gold Certified building. The purposeful design and construction of District Station directly aligns with our strategic effects in maintaining and growing an eco-friendly transit system for Quad Cities residents to enjoy”, says Jennifer Garrity, manager, administration for MetroLINK.
