Keolis renewed its contract with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) for the operation and maintenance of fixed-route and bus rapid transit (BRT) service for the southern Las Vegas Valley. Those routes include the Strip & Downtown Express (SDX) and the Deuce along the iconic resort corridor of Las Vegas Boulevard, as well as residential routes along Sahara Boulevard, Flamingo Road, Maryland Parkway, and other corridors.
Keolis has been operating fixed-route local and express transit routes in the region since 2013; the five-year contract extension will begin in July 2018. Under this extension of service, the company will continue to be responsible for a fleet of over 250 buses across 17 routes, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Annually, this amounts to nearly 13 million vehicle miles and over 37 million passenger trips.
“With our region’s rapid growth and booming tourism industry, it is critical that RTC's public transit system keeps pace with our riders’ mobility needs,” said Tina Quigley, GM of the RTC. “The RTC is pleased to extend its partnership with Keolis who has been a great partner over the past five years as we work together to ensure those who live in and visit Southern Nevada have access to a convenient, efficient, and reliable transit service.”
In addition to operating the RTC bus fleet, Keolis is responsible for all facets of bus maintenance, ensuring they run safely, efficiently, and on time.
Last year, Keolis and the RTC partnered with the City of Las Vegas for the launch of the nation’s first public self-driving autonomous shuttle in the downtown innovation district of Las Vegas.
