Masabi announced it is providing mobile ticketing services for Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART), a brand new commuter rail service in the Sonoma and Marin counties in California, which launched its full service on August 25.

The SMART ticketing app “SMART eTickets” is available for download from Google Play and the Apple App store with reduced fares, until full fares start Sept. 5. Masabi has deployed JustRide, its award winning, end-to-end mobile ticketing system operating in towns and cities around the world.

SMART is the San Francisco Bay Area’s newest transportation option, offering passenger rail services in Sonoma and Marin counties. SMART’s initial 43 miles of rail corridor includes 10 stations, from the Sonoma County Airport to Downtown San Rafael. Future extensions include: Larkspur, scheduled to be completed in 2019; Windsor; Healdsburg; and Cloverdale.

With the overwhelming majority of Bay Area transit riders using smartphones, JustRide allows SMART to offer an easy and convenient way to buy tickets and plan transit rides in the area. To assist customers with their transit trip planning, SMART’s mobile ticketing app is also integrated with the industry leading Transit, which is used by millions of transit riders across the country. The app enables users to:

  • Locate transit routes and stations near their current location.

  • Access real-time departure information.

  • Receive notifications about service disruptions.

  • Plan trips that also include different forms and modes of transportation like buses, bikeshare and Uber

Masabi’s JustRide is a cloud-based, deployment-proven, end-to-end mobile ticketing and fare collection platform. It comprises award-winning apps for ticket purchase, display and inspection together with back-end infrastructure for secure payments, ticket management, customer service, reporting, and real-time analytics.

“The addition of Masabi mobile ticketing to SMART offers riders a streamlined and easy to use service from the very beginning, saving them valuable time and increasing the quality of their journeys,” said Brian Zanghi, CEO of Masabi. “This is a landmark project that is changing the way people travel in the Bay Area, and we are delighted to be able to be a part of that by giving riders the ability to buy tickets anywhere, anytime at the touch of a button.”
