Substantial corporate contributions at APTA’s Rail Conference, coupled with
contributions from several individuals and companies have helped push the
Raymond C. Miller Scholarship Fund past $50,000.
As a result, the first scholarship in Miller’s honor will be
awarded this October at APTA’s Annual Meeting and EXPO in San Diego to someone wishing to pursue a
career in transit marketing, communications or public relations.
Miller, who served as executive director of the Hillsborough
Area Regional Transit Authority in Tampa,
Fla., since 2005, died April 27,
2007 following a prolonged illness.
Before his work in Tampa,
Miller was executive director of the Delaware Transit Corporation. Under his
direction, that agency received APTA's Outstanding Public Transportation System
award in 2003. He had more than 25 years of transit management experience, also
working for the Central Ohio Transit Authority in Columbus
and the Utah Transit Authority in Salt
Lake City.
