By 2009, Santa Rosa CityBus plans to increase its fleet of buses by 20 percent to meet the growing demand for transit service. To this end, CityBus took delivery of three 29-foot, diesel hybrid buses in May 2008 from the Gillig Corp., and will be awarding a contract to New Flyer of America for the purchase of four 40-foot, gasoline hybrid buses to allow for planned service expansion in FY 2010.
Other environmentally-friendly efforts that Santa Rosa CityBus has undertaken include: the conversion of all its bus shelters to solar powered shelters within the past two years; the conversion of a diesel bus to a gasoline hybrid bus within the past year; and the use of CNG-powered and gasoline hybrid support vehicles for staff.
In an effort to improve efficiency and meet increasing demand, Santa Rosa CityBus will also unveil a new, mobile Transit Information Center (TIC), implement an automatic vehicle locator (AVL) system and participate in joint procurements with larger California transit agencies.
