After its collapse in 2024, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has been working on rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.
MDTA recently selected STV to provide construction management and inspection services for the reconstruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Once completed, the bridge will serve as a vital transportation link for residents and commuters in the region.
Involved From Recovery to Reconstruction
STV has joined Michael Baker International in a joint venture for the project and will support the estimated $1.7 to $1.9 billion design-build project through all construction phases, including design development. The bridge is scheduled to reopen in 2028, and STV has already played a role in recovery efforts since its collapse.
Members of STV’s construction engineering and inspection team worked tirelessly between April and August 2024 to support the 24/7 recovery operations. The firm’s continuing involvement shows its commitment to the safety and resilience of the region’s infrastructure.
“As local Baltimore area residents who rely on the bridge, we deeply understand its significance as a key connection that supports our region’s economy and quality of life,” said Anthony Tabasco, CCM, CAC, deputy project manager at STV. “We share the collective anticipation for completing this signature project and are proud to support MDTA in delivering a bridge that will reunite and strengthen the Baltimore community.”
The Francis Scott Key Bridge carries the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) over the Patapsco River and is the outermost of three toll crossings of Baltimore’s harbor. It was a critical transportation link carrying an estimated 11.5 million vehicles annually.
Other Projects Involving STV
STV and MDTA have partnered on projects such as Section 100 of I-95 improvements. STV's presence has left a mark on Baltimore’s urban landscape for more than 30 years.
STV brings extensive experience in the planning, designing, and construction management of highways, roadways, and bridges.
Other projects they have worked on include the design-build of the Kosciuszko Bridge in New York, the Fantasy Harbour Bridge in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the rehabilitation of the Longfellow Bridge in Boston, Massachusetts.
