Texas operation adds parking, pass holder services

With Commuter Express ridership at record levels, Lewisville, Texas-based Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) is adding a new Park-and-Ride and initiating a "Guaranteed Ride Home" program for its monthly and annual pass holders.

DCTA recently entered into an agreement with radio station Texas Twister to reserve 20 parking spaces to serve as a Commuter Express Park-and -Ride. DCTA’s partnership with The Texas Twister will allow passengers to park free at designated parking spots during weekdays.

In an effort to provide an added benefit to its monthly and annual pass holders, DCTA has initiated a "Guaranteed Ride Home" program to provide a subsidized taxi ride home in case of an emergency. The program can only be utilized when an unforeseen circumstance occurs Monday through Friday at times when the regular Commuter Express routes are not running.

Each monthly or annual pass holder may use the program up to four times in a 12-month period. DCTA will reimburse up to $50 of the taxi fare per use. Approved trips include: personal illness during normal work hours, family emergency during normal work hours, and unscheduled, employer-mandated overtime.
