AASHTO updates transportation video website

Mission is to tell America's transportation story by giving AASHTO and its member state transportation departments the ability to communicate directly with the public, the news media, and decision-makers on Capitol Hill and across the nation.

D.C. Metro added to Google Maps

Metro, in partnership with Google, announced that riders can visit http://maps.google.com/, select "Get Directions" and the "public transit" icon, and enter their start and end address. People with mobile devices can use the Google Maps for Mobile application.

Honolulu rail opponents file suit

The group of opponents includes the former governor of Hawaii, a former trustee of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the leader of a nonprofit transportation watchdog corporation. The complaint names federal and Honolulu transit officials as defendants.

BART upgrades mobile website

Will better accommodate the growing number of riders seeking BART information on the go, with a trip planner for GPS-enabled phones; information about parking, bicycles, connecting transit and other neighborhood details for each of the system's 44 stations; and a carbon calculator.

APTA: Transit users save $10,230 annually

Since last month, gas prices rose another 14 cents, allowing transit riders to save an additional $10 this month. Gas prices have risen nearly $1 since the beginning of 2011, making annual transit saving $115 higher this month, compared to last.

Indiana bans texting while driving

Under the new law, effective July 1, violators face a maximum fine of $500. The law extends the state's current texting ban to all drivers. Drivers under 18 are also prohibited from all cell phone use.
