APTA : Buses, trains leading clean tech advances

Today’s public transit vehicles are significantly more advanced than automobiles in their ability to run on clean fuels. For instance, buses on the road powered by alternative fuels rose from 2% in 1992 to 36% in 2011. That compares to the percentage of cars capable of being powered by alternative fuels was only 3.2% in 2011.

SEPTA achieves APTA's 'Gold' sustainability level

In addition to having the second largest hybrid-electric bus fleet in the U.S., SEPTA achieved a 19.7% reduction in water usage per passenger miles traveled (PMT); a 10.0% reduction in fuel use per PMT; a 4.0% reduction in electricity use per PMT; and 3.6% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per PMT.
