Nebraska’s Metro Transit, Via Team for On-Demand Transit System
The Regional Metropolitan Transit Authority of Omaha (Metro Transit) launched Metro Flex, an on-demand, app-based public transit pilot service in partnership with Via.
Metro Flex is a link to all of Omaha’s transit services. It works in tandem with Metro’s buses, ORBT (Omaha Rapid Bus Transit), and MOBY, Metro Transit’s paratransit service.
The service will operate in three zones: the North Zone, South Zone, and West Zone. Each zone has access to between seven and 11 of Metro Transit’s bus routes. Each zone also has at least one transit center, providing access to key connections across Omaha.
Metro Flex is a two-year pilot project with the option to extend up to five years. It was made possible through several generous philanthropic organizations, according to the agency.
MARTA Taps Reflexions for Mobile App Redevelopment
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) board approved the award of a contract for the redevelopment of the MARTA On the Go mobile application to digital solutions firm Reflexions.
Reflexions is also overseeing the creation of MARTA’s new website, ensuring customers have a consistent, modern digital experience across all platforms.
Once complete, the new app will combine the features of four MARTA apps into one, including rider information and trip planning, Breeze mobile payment, incident reporting through See & Say, and on-demand booking and tracking.
The unified platform will make it easier for customers to access everything they need in one place, without juggling multiple downloads.
Lime Launches ‘Glider’ Vehicles in California
Lime announced Long Beach, California, will be among the first cities in the world to officially launch its LimeGlider vehicles, following a successful pilot in select cities across the globe in 2024.
The Glider is designed for riders who may have difficulty pedaling for extended periods, as well as those looking to replace car trips with a more comfortable, two-wheeled option. With a citywide rollout, Gliders will support longer trips and expand access to car-free mobility.
The LimeGlider is an evolution of Lime’s current vehicle offerings, combining seated comfort with the effortlessness of a scooter. The innovative design includes footrests instead of pedals, allowing riders to get on and go. The larger padded seat is unique in Lime’s fleet and is positioned closer to the ground to provide a lower center of gravity for riders.
Over the next few weeks, Lime will deploy LimeGliders in Long Beach, with a fleet of up to 100 throughout the city.
