The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) informed the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) that its request for replacement vehicles through funds provided from NOACA’s Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program was approved by the board.
Under the award, NOACA will provide federal funds equal to 80% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of $1,695,348, beginning in State Fiscal Year 2026.
The funds are provided through the Federal Transit Administration’s Section 5310 — Enhanced Mobility for Seniors & Individuals with Disabilities program. The remaining 20% local match must come from a non-federal funding source.
The Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program aims to eliminate barriers and enhance transportation options in Northeast Ohio for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and low-income individuals by coordinating resources and efforts among public transit operators, human service agencies, and other transportation providers.
“GCRTA is always looking for ways to enhance all aspects of our operations proactively,” said GCRTA GM/CEO India L. Birdsong Terry. “The grant funding from this NOACA program not only allows us to upgrade our vehicles but also demonstrates our continued commitment to addressing the special transportation needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities.”
In addition to the funding, NOACA also provided GCRTA with the necessary steps to program their project for proper implementation.
