BusCon offers view of the latest and greatest
Time to gear up for the big show.
As oil and fuel prices continue to skyrocket, it has become more and more apparent that not only the U.S. but the world is approaching a full-blown crisis. As we examine the alternatives, it is clear that buses, whether they are public transit or private motorcoaches, will play a significant role in getting people to the places they want to go. It is for this reason that this year’s BusCon, being held once again at the Navy Pier in Chicago from Sept. 16 to 17, is a must-attend event for everybody that is a part of either the public or private bus industry. As always, this year’s BusCon is more than just a chance to discuss the transportation industry’s vital role in our society; it is also a chance to get out and see new technological advances, new vehicles or make new connections. HOW DIRE IS OUR SITUATION?
This year’s keynote presentation will feature Frederick L. Potter, vice president of Hart Energy Consulting, who will discuss high fuel costs and expose the truth about our energy dilemma. Aside from providing information and expertise for several U.S. government entities, Potter and his team, in conjunction with Hart Energy Publishing, provide multiple research, analysis, refining of linear program, conference and publication services to both industry and government groups worldwide. With that much expertise and credibility behind him, there is no doubt that Potter’s address will be of vital importance to all attendees.
BusCon isn’t just about our energy crisis. This year’s sessions also include programs that will discuss a range of topics, from using technology for risk management to leadership trends for transit managers, and from operating a successful paratransit program to issues in private transit. Additionally, the popular university transportation sessions, spearheaded by Sherry Lewis, transportation manager at UCLA, will be back. BUSES ON BOARD
BusCon also presents a great opportunity for its attendees to inspect new buses, comparison shop and ask a manufacturer representative key questions that will help in making a decision. If you’ve never visited our 140,000-square-foot show floor, expect to see everything from cutaway vehicles to double-deck motorcoaches. Alongside those buses will also be several new products that can possibly help your vehicles operate better.
The manufacturers on tap this year for the industry’s largest collection of bus models are: ABC Companies, Bus and Coach International, CAIO, Daimler Buses North America, ElDorado National, Girardin Minibus Inc., Glaval Bus Inc., Goshen Coach, IC Bus LLC, Krystal Enterprises, Motor Coach Industries, North American Bus Industries Inc., Prevost, Stallion Bus Industries Inc., Starcraft Bus/Supreme Corp. and Turtle Top. Whether it’s the opening reception at the Hyatt Regency Chicago or the networking cruise, where you get a chance to see Lake Michigan, BusCon is most importantly about getting out of the office and visiting with colleagues, while also taking care of important business. This year, with our role in transporting our citizens as we all become more and more aware of going green, Sept. 16 to 17 in Chicago is a can’t miss.
