North and South Korea finalized plans to reconnect rails and roads that link their shared border.

The plan calls for rebuilding two sets of railroads and roads severed during the Korean War.

The two Koreas began construction in September, and the roads were expected to be reconnected as early as November. The two-and-a-half-miles of railroad track may be connected by the end of the year.

Army troops from both the North and South were working to clear mines and razor wire before laying the track.

The project was part of a political deal made earlier in the year to restart the process of reconciling the two countries, reported the Associated Press.
