The agency recently completed a survey that found that riders were very supportive of the plan.

The push came from the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency's East Bay Smart Corridors program, which coordinates with 25 local agencies to improve and create intelligent transit systems.
The buses would be equipped with a videocassette-size box that converts existing cellular phone networks into Wi-Fi that riders can access with their laptops.
A proposed three-year grant from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District would pay for the installation and service, which would end up costing between $60 to $75 per bus per month.
