On Sunday, Alstom and its partners have signed two contracts with the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) for Line 3 of the Cairo, Egypt metro system.
The contracts are valued at a total of $180 million, and concern the second phase of construction of Line 3 metro system, linking the Abbasiya district with Al-Ahram, a distance of 3.7 miles. The line will ultimately extend 20.5 miles.
Leader of the consortium, Alstom will provide the Urbalis 200 Train Control System, points machines and station signaling equipment. Alstom’s share of the contract is worth approximately $34.6 million.
In addition, on June 12, Belgian operator Ifrabel inaugurated its new high-speed L3 line, equipped with Alstom’s Level 2 European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Atlas control and signaling system.
This 21.7-mile line, which links Liege, Belgium with the German border via Aachen, is the first European cross-border, high-speed line equipped with Level 2 ERTMS technology.
Alstom also installed the Atlas system aboard four ICE3 trains in use on the rail line and will equip the fleet’s six other trains, which will come into service in 2012.
After winning this contract in 2008, Alstom handled the new signaling system design, manufacture, installation, testing and approval.
With more than 59,400,000 boardings since the service’s debut, the A Line’s utilization surpassed that of all other RTD rail services in 2025, the agency reported.
